Life is like the game of Chutes and Ladders

 
 

In Chutes and Ladders, players race to be the first to the top of the board. Players roll a single die and advance their token the rolled number of spaces. Along the way, they will find ladders to help them advance, and chutes or slides which will cause them to move backward.

Life offers us ladders and chutes. We get a promotion and our child gets accepted into their dream school. Our spouse gets cancer or we get in a fender bender.

We set goals to take us to the top of the board. It may be a new relationship, job, saving for retirement, or learning a new language. When the roller coaster of life takes us up, we are excited and happy. When we plunge down, we are scared and hanging on for dear life.

To be happy, accept what is. Learn how to be with your life as it is, not how you would like it to be. The good times don’t last. The bad times don’t last.
